YSL Black Opium

YSL Black Opium - 50ml

Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom, Pear

Middle Notes: Coffee, Jasmine

Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedar

When I first saw this hit the shelves I won't lie, I automatically thought it would be a more masculine, and perhaps spicy scent, in regard to the name anyway. I mean 'Black Opium' doesn't exactly scream 16 year old girl if you ask me. Wanting to be thrown out of my comfort zone, my aim was to just try something completely different to what is already in my rapidly alternating collection. In a way I was right in the sense that it has a rich overall smell to it, and that it's not your stereotypical sweet and floral perfume. Despite this, there is something about it that is both wonderfully alluring and musky, yet still extremely feminine. Now I understand the controversy around the packaging and name as the charming and elegant smell is so unexpected. In terms of lasting power, it's nothing revolutionary, however it does linger for longer than some of my more sweeter perfumes.

Personally, I think this perfume has so many layers to it that every time I spray it it seems to smell different, in a positive way. When first applied to the skin it smells 10x different to when it has settled in, which I love as I'm constantly being reminded of a collection of beautiful and different tones that the perfume includes. It's so versatile as I could very happily wear this from first thing in the morning to later on at night. This perfume was always going to be a strong contender as one of my favourites since there is a copious amount of vanilla to go around; Since vanilla is my favourite scent in the whole world, I couldn't pass this up, and you shouldn't either!

This really is a delicious scent for those wanting something a little but unique, without being completely thrown in at the deep end.

Curls to last a lifetime | GHD Curve Review

I'm back with another rave review from none other than the brand new GHD launch! I was lucky enough to receive this stunning new curler for Christmas and after the success of my previous GHD review (click here) I thought that it couldn't go a miss on my blog.

I've always thought GHD specialised in just straighteners but I honestly could not be more wrong. The wand is unique in the sense that is starts out as a normal barrel and sort of flattens out towards the end. I haven't ever seen anything like it before and that's one reason as to why I was so elated to see it underneath the Christmas tree and see what it brought to the table.

When using this, the curls that are created just scream old Hollywood glamour to me as they create that really loose yet charming curl that everyone desires. I love this because it only takes around 10 seconds to heat up unlike my old curler that took far too long for someone as impatient as me. The curls last all day, but they do of course still drop, which is usually the case with most styling tools. Taking about 1-2 inch segments of hair, I curl outwards to achieve elegant and bouncy curls.

Like I said before, in my opinion GHD can really do no wrong. That's why I will continue to invest in their products probably until they stop making them... (which is hopefully never).

The only criticism I have for this is that it doesn't come with a 'safety glove', as I like to call them. For someone as prone to accidents as me, I would have preferred and felt safer using this with a glove. Despite this, I can always purchase a glove separately to put my mind at ease and stop me working about burning my hands.

The Results

I knew from the get go that this curler would have me smitten and I honestly don't know what I ever did without it!
